The Lord’s Prayer

200px-Houghton_Lowell_1238.5_(A)_-_Wuthering_Heights,_1847Jesus offers a model prayer for those who would follow and please Him, in contrast to the vain repetitions of the prayers of heathens (MATTHEW 6:7-8). Part of His example is to pray for God’s protection in MATTHEW 6:13, saying, “And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” In chapter two, Mrs. Heathcliff threatens Joseph with her “Black Art,” and he gasps, “Oh, wicked, wicked! May the Lord deliver us from evil!”
