Up to seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.’” Jesus continues by offering a parable that serves as the sternest warning to believers in all of Scripture, a warning against being unforgiving in light of how much the true believer has been forgiven by the Lord. Ellen Dean’s dream described in chapter three is impossible to understand without Matthew 18 as background knowledge.
