moses_tablets_law_bigIn chapter 10, Hawthorne shows Pearl “skipping, dancing, and frisking fantastically…It was as if she had been made afresh, out of new elements, and must perforce be permitted to live her own life, and be a law unto herself, without her eccentricities being reckoned to her for a crime.” The Apostle Paul assured the Romans that all men will be rewarded according to their works: “…there is no partiality with God. For [all people]…will be judged by the law…for when Gentiles [non-Jews], who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these…are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness…in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ” (ROMANS 2:11-16).
