hamIn NUMBERS 32:23, Moses tells the tribes of Gad and Rueben that their sin has consequences and, using personification, Moses warns them to “…be sure your sin will find you out.”  Chanticleer pleads his case to Pertelote that dreams must be believed, alluding not only to NUMBERS 32:23, but also the dreams he had of his friend being murdered, which came true: “Mordre wol out, that se we day by de. / Mordre is so wlatsom and abhomynable / To God, that is so just and reasonable, / That he ne wol nat suffre it heled be, / Though it abyde a yeer, or two, or thre. / Mordre wol out, this is my conclusion.”
