In chapter 12, just after Tom compares Aunt Polly to the personified Death of REVELATION 6:8 (also see “A Pale Horse“), he notes that Aunt Polly’s perception of her activities is quite different, continuing, “But she never suspected that she was not an angel of healing and the balm of Gilead in disguise…”
