Patrick Henry concludes the opening to his most famous speech by asking, “Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offence, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the majesty of heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings?” The majesty of heaven is a recurring motif throughout the Bible. One of the most striking references is found in HEBREWS 8:1-2, where that book declares, “Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.”
