Lily-flower-freeThe sonnet’s speaker asks his friend, Mr. Lawrence, to help him pass the time until the west wind re-inspires “The frozen earth, and clothe in fresh attire / The lily and rose, that neither sowed nor spun.” In MATTHEW 6:28 and LUKE 12:27, Jesus encourages His disciples not to worry, but to “Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin…” and yet they are taken care of by God and if God takes care of these, then how much more valuable are they to God?
