Sin’s Consequences

Lady_tempt_GawainSir Gawain notes that it is “no marvel if one be made a fool and brought to sorrow by women’s wiles, for so was Adam beguiled by one, and Solomon by many, and Samson all too soon, for Delilah dealt him his doom; and David thereafter was wedded with Bathsheba, which brought him much sorrow…” In one sentence, the author alludes to no fewer than five chapters of the Bible where it is recorded that Adam (GENESIS 3:1-24), Solomon (1 KINGS 11:1-43), Samson (JUDGES 16:1-31) and David (2 SAMUEL 11:1-27 and 2 SAMUEL 12:1-31) all sinned and suffered great loss because of their sin involving women.
