Widows and Orphans

Abraham_Lincoln_seated,_Feb_9,_1864Taking care in the last words of his speech to note the importance of taking care of the soldiers from both sides as well as “his widow and his orphan,” the words of JAMES 1:27 must have been on Lincoln’s mind: “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world” (KJV).
