Pharaoh and the Red Sea

The speaker in Freneau’s poem warns the honey bee against drinking too deeply by recalling the events recorded in EXODUS 14:1-31: “Here bigger bees than you might sink, / Even bees full six feet high. / Like Pharaoh, then, you would be said / To perish in a sea of red.”
