Plimoth_Plantation_2002Bradford contrasts the Indians’ cruelty to the Puritans with the “unusual kindness” shown to Paul and his companions by the natives of the island of Malta, as recorded in ACTS 27:1-28:10, after Paul was shipwrecked there: “It is recorded in Scripture as a mercy to the Apostle and his shipwrecked company, that the barbarians showed them no small kindness in refreshing them…” No doubt Bradford was especially recalling ACTS 28:2.
