In chapter 49, after being rescued from the sea after an encounter with a whale, Ishmael writes his will and says, “I felt all the easier; a stone was rolled away from my heart. Besides, all the days I should now live would be as good as the days that Lazarus lived after his resurrection…” Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, after he had been dead four days! That account can be read in JOHN 11:1-44 and speaks of a stone against Lazarus’ cave-tomb. Later in his Gospel, John records that the stone had been taken away from Jesus’ grave and that Jesus has also was resurrected (JOHN 20:1-9).
