Nebuchadnezzar

William_Blake_-_Nebuchadnezzar_(MFA_Boston)In chapter 37, when she sees Rochester after the fire in his home, Jane says to him, “You have  ‘faux air’ of Nebuchadnezzar in the fields about you, that is certain: your hair reminds me of eagles’ feathers ; whether your nails are grown like birds’ claws or not, I have not yet noticed.” Because of his pride, Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king, “was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws” (DANIEL 4:33). The entire account in Daniel 4 includes God’s communication to Nebuchadnezzar through his dreams, Daniel’s interpretation of his dreams and subsequent warning to turn from his evil ways, the result of Nebuchadnezzar’s sin, and Nebuchadnezzar’s response to his humiliation.
